One of our proudest accomplishments as a company has been fostering a culture of beer & hospitality education. From the extensive training under the culinary and beverage programs to opportunities to receive higher training such as Cicerone and Prud'Homme, our investment in our team members has remained paramount.
In an effort to highlight one of our highly accomplished managers, we nominated Ethan Higham, Beverage Manager at Beertown London for one of Londons Twenty in Their 20’s topbusiness influencers. This recognition allowed Ethan to be featured in the October issue of Business London Magazine, along with 19 other incredible young professionals in the city! You better believe he made that list!
Ethan has been instrumental in the success of our establishment over the last 3 years. His passion for creating genuine, unique experiences for our guests and our staff is rivalled only by his passion for craft beer and the local food & beverage industry. Ethan started with us a few years ago as a server with almost no experience. Over a short time, he was promoted to Bartender, Supervisor and finally, Beverage Manager. In his current role, he is responsible for 30 staff members and the entire beverage portfolio, and is responsible for over $1,000,000 in sales annually.
Ethan is a unanimously voted 2018 Pinnacle award winner by his peers as someone who embodies the Charcoal Group vision, value & mission, is helpful, present and perseveres. He was also voted 2019 Front of House Manager of the year by CG Corporate Management over our 11 restaurants.
Ethan also spends time on the restaurant floor executing what we call 'Moments of Truth' for our guests. These are small (or big) moments that we connect with our guest on a more personal level. Most recently, he met some guests that were in the restaurant that were turned away at the US Border, while on their way to Kentucky to celebrate their anniversary. Upon hearing this, Ethan went to the LCBO and purchased some bottles of Kentucky Bourbon and printed out the Kentucky Bourbon map, so that his guests could at least experience even a little bit of Kentucky. Talk about going that extra mile!
